Four months after Android 17 shipped, just 1% of active Android devices run it. The leader is Android 16, at 25.4% as of October 2026, up from 7.5% when the figures were last refreshed in December 2025.
Android 14 is second with 15.3% and Android 15 third with 14.7%, which together cover about 30% of devices.
Android 11 still holds 10.5%
The tail is longer than many expect. Android 13 holds 11.8%, Android 11 holds 10.5% and Android 12 holds 9.6%. In total, 43.6% of active devices are on Android 13 or older, while 56.4% run Android 14 or newer.
Android 17’s 1% is not a like-for-like comparison: it has had less time on the market than Android 16 had at the previous snapshot, so its share should climb as new phones ship with it and older ones are updated.
An estimate, not a census
There is no live public chart any more. Heise.de reportedly reportedly pulled these numbers out of Android Studio’s cumulative adoption data, which counts phones that checked in with Google Play across one week.
Whether your own phone gets Android 17 depends on its maker’s update list, which Samsung, Xiaomi and others publish per model.
