Meta reportedly built a humanoid home robot with China’s Fourier

A prototype called Max, built in about three months, is reportedly meant for household chores. Meta says it is for internal research and not for sale.

Key points

  • Meta reportedly built a humanoid prototype called Max with China's Fourier in about three months.
  • Max is said to weigh 48kg, stand 1.5 metres tall and run on Nvidia's Jetson Thor.
  • Meta says it is internal research with no plan to sell; Max 2 started in September.

Meta has reportedly put together a humanoid robot of its own: a prototype called Max, made with the Shanghai company Fourier and pitched at housework. A second version is already in progress.

Meta’s own line is that this is research for internal use and that it has no plan to sell the machines. A source added that no launch date exists for any consumer humanoid, so nothing here is a product yet.

The account comes from a Saturday report by The Information, which cites people familiar with the project. Max is said to stand about 1.5 metres tall and weigh 48kg (106 pounds). Its face is a display that can act out expressions, it has speakers, and each hand has five fingers so it can lift small items. Nvidia’s Jetson Thor chip is the brain. Meta has shown nothing of Max in public, so every figure here is reported, not confirmed.

Three months to build, a redesign already under way

Meta and Fourier reportedly had the first robot ready in roughly three months. Meta’s robotics product chief, Li-Chen Miller, is said to have lived at Fourier’s Shanghai plant for close to two months during the build. Some Meta staff got to see Max at a closed robotics summit in late August.

Max 2 has been under way since September. Plans for it reportedly cover a different torso, upgraded hands, a built-in projector and more sensors so it copes with staircases.

A body for Meta’s AI agent

The robot is meant to give Muse, Meta’s AI agent, a physical form, with household chores as the goal. The effort sits inside Meta Superintelligence Labs, which took in the start-up Assured Robot Intelligence in May. As SiliconANGLE noted at the time, the San Diego company, founded by researchers Lerrel Pinto and Xiaolong Wang, writes AI software for robots, and its team joined the same division as Meta Robotics Studio, which leads the humanoid work.

That is a shift from what had been reported before. The same write-up recalls a report from last year that Meta did not plan to launch a humanoid itself and would instead supply components and software to other makers, much as Qualcomm supplies chips to Android phone brands. A prototype built with an outside manufacturer does not contradict the internal-research line, but it shows how far the hardware work has gone.

Fourier’s robots so far

Fourier unveiled its own GR-3 in August 2025, calling it a “Care-bot” for companionship and, later, assistive care for older adults. The company’s release lists a height of 165cm, a weight of 71kg, up to 55 degrees of freedom and 12-joint dexterous hands. If the reported figures hold, Max is smaller and lighter than that robot.

There is no price, no date and no word on where Max 2 will be tested. Meta has not said when, or whether, it will show either robot publicly.
