Vivo Y6k launches in China with a 6,500mAh battery for 1,599 yuan

Vivo's new budget 5G phone pairs a 6,500mAh battery and a 120Hz screen with a Dimensity 6300 chip, and starts at 1,599 yuan in China.

Key points

  • Vivo Y6k costs 1,599 yuan in China for 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.
  • It has a 6,500mAh battery but only 15W charging.
  • The 6.74-inch screen runs at 120Hz; the chip is a Dimensity 6300.

Vivo has launched the Y6k in China, a budget 5G phone built around a 6,500mAh battery. Only one configuration has a reported price so far: 1,599 yuan, which gets you 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

The phone has a 6.74-inch LCD with a 1,600 x 720 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits in high-brightness mode. It runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 6300, an octa-core chip clocked up to 2.4GHz, and ships with OriginOS 6 based on Android 16.

Charging is only 15W, so the large cell will take a while to fill. Vivo claims the battery keeps its performance for up to five years, a figure that has not been tested independently.

Spec Vivo Y6k
Display 6.74-inch LCD, 1,600 x 720, 120Hz
Chip MediaTek Dimensity 6300
Memory and storage 6GB LPDDR4X, 128GB UFS 2.2
Cameras 13MP rear, 5MP front (both f/2.2)
Battery 6,500mAh, 15W charging
Connectivity 5G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.4, USB Type-C, 3.5mm jack, infrared remote
Protection IP65, SGS five-star drop rating
Size and weight 8.4mm thick, 209g
Price (China) 1,599 yuan (6GB/128GB)

For a phone at this price the extras are practical ones. The IP65 rating covers dust and water jets, though not immersion, the headphone jack is still there, and an infrared blaster lets it double as a remote for TVs and air conditioners. Unlocking is handled by a fingerprint reader on the side of the frame, or by the face. The 13MP main camera and 5MP selfie camera both use f/2.2 lenses, so photography is clearly not the selling point. There is no confirmation about a global launch yet.
