Nokia XL Hands On – First Impressions and Press Launch Photos

Yesterday, during an event in Lahore, Microsoft Devices Pakistan (previously Nokia Pakistan) launched the second and bigger Android smartphone the Nokia XL in Pakistan. Nokia XL enhances the performance from the previous Nokia X by increasing the RAM as well as it comes with the bigger 5” screen and 2 megapixels front-facing camera.

Software interface of Nokia XL is just same tile-based user interface inspired by the Lumia family as it came with Nokia X. The core software is also same AOSP 4.1.2. The difference comes in the hardware as Nokia XL boasts a bigger 5″ display with 2MP front-facing camera and a 5MP rear-facing, autofocus camera with LED flash, increased 768 MB of RAM. Nokia XL will be available in bright green, orange, cyan, yellow, black and white. Nokia XL is tagged at Rs. 17,600/- with 1 year warranty in Pakistan. You can find the full specifications of Nokia XL in our previous post.

First impressions of Nokia XL were pretty good after having experience with the 4” Nokia X (check in-depth review of Nokia X). It’s bigger and quick follow up with the user interface was smooth and clean – thanks to the little upgraded RAM with 768 MB.

Design and the outer look are also similar to the Nokia X but disappointingly the resolution also remains the same even on the bigger screen which means it will be less sharper than the little Nokia X. Nokia XL serves with the pixels density of 187 PPI where on Nokia X it’s 233 PPI.

Here we have some hands on photos of Nokia XL below.

The display quality and performance seemed to be quite same to the one we have seen on Nokia X. Well that’s also technically same according to specifications. It’s not among the better ones but it’s not bad too. But the IPS display on Nokia X or Nokia XL serves much better than the competitors’ TFT panels on the budget phones.

The front-facing camera on Nokia XL should actually attract those users who stood way from the Nokia X for not being able to have video calling capability. On even better side, it’s 2 megapixels camera on the front.

Nokia XL is powered with the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Dual-core 1 GHz Cortex A5 and Adreno 203 GPU, 768 MB of RAM and the 4GB internal/mass memory. Micro SD card option is available that supports up to 32GB of additional memory.

Back cover is removable and so is the battery. 1830mAh capacity is said to give you 30 days on standby on with dual SIM on Nokia XL while 16 hours and 13 hours of talk time on 2G and 3G respectively.

5 megapixels primary camera on the back with LED flash is auto focus and gives 4x digital zoom in still photos while it only records 480p videos at 30 fps.

We can not say any more about the device until we have a good time spent with this bigger Nokia XL. We hope we’ll bring a full review soon. Till then have the photos below directly from the press launch event held yesterday in Lahore, Pakistan.

Before winding up, you must be reminded about the price of the Nokia XL that is Rs. 17,600/- with 1 year warranty in Pakistan.
