Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ takes the top spot in DxOMark’s camera test side by side Sony Xperia Z5 with an average score of 87.

In late September, Sony’s Xperia Z5 was crowned to deliver the best photo and video results with its 23 MP camera. Most recently according to DxOMarks’s latest report, Z5 now has to share its top spot with Samsung’s Galaxy S6 edge+

With some praises, DxOMark briefs how Galaxy S6 edge+ performed with excellent exposure in all lighting conditions. However in very high contrast scenes, the brightest areas sometimes becomes overexposed. Even in scenes with high dynamic range, the exposure is good as HDR mode is automatically triggered where it’s needed. Even under extreme low light conditions of 5 Lux images are usable

White balance and color reproduction are also referred to be excellent with pleasant and realistic colors. Having the smartphone shoot with some yellow/pink shade in white balance under a tungsten light source (indoors) which produces some color shading too, DxOMark refers it to be not as bad as offensive.

DxOMark also records high levels of detail preservation providing impressive detail in the image. However in result it builds up noise which noticeable even when shooting in good lighting conditions. Well again it’s not referred to be offensive as you would only see it if you are really looking for it into pixels.

Galaxy S6 Edge Plus’s autofocus is fast and accurate in all lighting conditions with just some minor instabilities and overshoot occurring in preview mode.

In fact, flash with no additional light source, is also exclaimed to deliver excellent result with good detail as well as controlled noise and pleasant color. Using flash with another light source (such as a tungsten light), color reproduction starts to get a little unstable. As usual, white balance continues to be inconsistent between consecutive shots.

Finally for video recording, DxOMark labels the Galaxy S6 edge+ as “the best camcorder available on a smartphone”. Unlike, as the Galaxy S6 edge+ providing anticipated results in still photos under both bright and low light conditions, video recording suffers in low light conditions as the footage has a loss of detail.

In numbers, The Galaxy S6 edge+ gets a score of 87 for photos and 85 for videos in DxOMark camera tests where both of the scores are one point behind the Xperia Z5 making an average difference of 1. It makes an average score of 86 which is just behind Xperia Z5 and falsifies the DxOMark’s title and makes the Xperia Z5 still a top contender alone. Well, the title is just made up from a little error in final calculation, the DxOMark test remains healthy. However if you are a Samsung fan, you still should be excited to know that 4 spots in the top 10 list of DxOMark are occupied by Samsung.
