Nokia continues to support existing Lumia smartphones with new UI, Features and Upgrades

That’s no surprise, the Windows Phone 8 isn’t coming to existing Windows Phone 7.5 devices. Nokia did plan major software update in place of the Windows Phone 8 for the existing devices a couple of months back. Today Nokia has once again reminded the same with the specific applications titles that will be coming to existing Nokia Lumia range of smartphones that include Nokia Lumia 610, Lumia 710, Lumia 800 and Lumia 900.

After introducing the first smartphones in the Nokia Lumia family to be built on Windows Phone 8, there is one message that needs to be made loud and clear: existing Lumia owners also have plenty to look forward to and are definitely not being left behind.

Nokia also mentioned about their devotion to Lumia range of smartphone from the day one referring to earlier updates including “battery fix”, “Internet sharing”, “Flip-to-Silence”, “Camera extras”, “Contact share”, “PlayTo”, “Nokia Drive” and a few others.

Nokia Counters and recently launched Nokia City are already available for Lumia 710, Lumia 800 and Lumia 900. There is good line-up of upcoming updates to the existing Lumia devices. Cinemagraph and updates to Smart Group Shot with other surprises will be arriving to Nokia’s existing Windows Phone 7.5 devices. There are games from Zynga “Draw Something” and “Words with Friends” that coming to Nokia Lumia smartphones including new apps from Bloomberg, WhatsApp, Groupon etc. Following is list of some of the updates.

  • A new Start screen look and feel, familiar from Windows Phone 8, giving you a whole new look the moment you unlock your phone
  • Ringtone maker app to selected markets to create a personal ringtone
  • Contact share app updated to support sharing over Bluetooth in addition to SMS and email
  • Bluetooth file transfer to send media files via Bluetooth from your Lumia device to any other phone

Nokia has not specified a definite ETA for the updates but they will be sharing more details on the updates once the roll-out is near.
