Google is all set to launch long awaited Street View Maps in Pakistan for major cultural sites across the region. Google is organizing local event in Lahore, Pakistan to be held tomorrow (Thursday, August 20th) to announce the launch of Cultural Institute Pakistan.

If you remember in early 2012, Google initiated the project with the help of local Govt. and authorities.

In the project, the digitized work of Pakistani art and history will be presented as well as several Street View Special collections could also be explored on Google Maps.

It’s has been possible due to a number of organizations having preserved the cultural heritage of Pakistan by allowing and helping Google in this project. examples are Heritage Foundation Pakistan and Citizens Archive of Pakistan.

Our guy will be there on the event to learn more about the announcement and we’ll update you accordingly.

We have already seen a couple of historic places on Google Maps which are readily available to explore including Jahangir Tomb Shahdara, Kamrans Baradari Ravi, Jallo Park, Shalimar Garden, Lahore FortMasjid Wazir Khan and more from Lahore. Fort and Hiran Minar from adjoining city Sheikhupura are also available to explore on Street View Maps.

It’s easy to look for your favorite site if it’s available for Street View. Zoom in to your region on Google Maps, pick the guy tool (street view guy) from the on-screen options (bottom-right corner). Right after you pick and drag the guy tool over the maps, all the sites will be highlighted in that region if those sites are available for Street View.
