Samsung Galaxy Note 7 – Detail, Camera and Sample Photos/Videos

The Korean smartphone maker, Samsung chose to label its new bigger sized smartphone flagship as Galaxy Note 7, skipping the number “6” to keep with its naming convention of the Galaxy S series.

The Galaxy Note 7 was launched today with rumored iris scanner and if we judge by its specifications the new Note 7 seems to have an impressive package but it’s more of a refinement over predecessors instead of having a radical overhaul.

Specifically talking about the camera module here, it comes with the same specification as the smaller sized Galaxy S7 and S7 edge devices. 12MP camera module bundled with 1/2.6″ type sensor and 1.4µm (micron) pixel size is combined with a fast f/1.7 aperture, OIS (optical image stabilization) and on-sensor dual-pixel phase detection AF (PDAF). On the front, the Note 7 has a 5MP camera with f/1.7 lens aperture.

While the Galaxy S7 and its edge counterpart were equipped with the Sony IMX260 mobile image sensor, it was expected that Samsung would equip the Note 7 with its home grown image sensor which has everything like the Sony’s but in addition it also features proprietary ISOCELL technology that physically isolates the photodiodes with a wall to prevent light bleeding. However Samsung has not mentioned anything like that so it’s assumed the Note 7 also features Sony’s sensor like Galaxy S7. It’s yet to be confirmed.

Likewise, Galaxy Note 7 is also identical to the Galaxy S7 in other aspects internally whether it’s processor or memory. It comes in tow models, one with Qualcomm chipset and the other one with Exynos SoC. Both the models have 4GB of RAM but come with only 64GB of internal storage with option to expand via microSD card up to 256GB.

Note 7 has a 5.7″ dual-edge Super AMOLED display serving at the Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels that features the first time Gorilla Glass 5. Samsung still offers the 3.5mm standard audio jack unlike other manufacturers who have moved on with wireless thing for audio. But Samsung opted-in the new USB Type-C port for Note 7. The phablet is backed by 3500mAh battery.

Not to mention the prominent feature, the iris scanner, in addition to the fingerprint scanner, the Note 7 is also water and dust resistant with IP68 certification.

Galaxy Note 7 seems to be a good contender for users who would prefer to have larger screens and a stylus for major tasks e.g. photo editing. While the camera is seems to be similar to of Galaxy S7 and it’s been tested at various places and has even got the best camera rank from DxO Mark at the time, Samsung has released some official camera samples taken from Galaxy Note 7 which sure are amazing to look at.
