Huawei Mate 9 has a Porsche Design Variant that Costs Over $1500

So the Chinese phone maker didn’t choose Germany to launch the latest Huawei Mate 9 only as a random location. It’s for the companies Huawei has partnered to launch the new Mate 9 smartphone. One of course you are familiar with already, the camera makers Leica but the other one is more a surprise – Porsche.

Huawei Mate 9 was long rumored to have Leica dual camera but at the launch event in Germany, the Chinese phone maker, along with a standard Mate 9, had a surprise variant of the phone specially designed in collaboration with famous car maker, Porsche. The latter variant is literally called as Porsche Design.

Mate 9 Porsche Design equips with many similar features from inside as the standard Huawei Mate 9 but it differs at size, display, memory and storage properties. Mate 9 Porsche Design features smaller 5.5 inch display which is AMOLED and has dual-edge curved glass. It’s sharper with WQHD resolution of 2560×1440 pixels serving at as high pixel density as 534ppi. With 16.7 million colors, the color saturation is 100% with high contrast of 70000:1.

This is kind of a premium smartphone we are talking about and not just a design. The phone however is powered with the same Kirin 960 chipset, processor and GPU on it. But this thing has the the memory as 6GB of RAM and 256GB of on-board storage where standard offering is 4GB+64GB. Well considering the premium factor of this Porsche smartphone, you won’t have the option of dual-SIM or an expandable microSD card slot. In-built 256GB should be rather more than fine for you in most of the cases.

As noted above, dual-camera on Mate 9 Porsche Design is also same as the standard. It’s configuration of two image sensors 20MP (monochrome) + 12MP (RGB). Take it as a next generation of the original setup found in Huawei P9 earlier this year with 12MP(B&W) + 12MP(RGB). It offers Leica optics with optical image stabilization and 2x hybrid zoom which is supposed to deliver lossless zoom quality (it’s not optical zoom as suggested in rumors). Impressively Huawei has provided 4K video recording in Mate 9 for the first time.

4000mAh battery has the support of Huawei’s SuperCharge technology that uses a 5A power via the USB Type-C cable and provides 50% faster charging than previous generations. As claimed, 20 minutes charge can give you a full day use on Mate 9. Likewise a 10 minute charge can provide enough power to watch 2 full movies. “Most importantly, the battery sets a new standard in charging technology including Super Safe 5-gate protection, which offers real-time voltage, current and temperature monitoring to eliminate safety hazards and safeguard battery life”. That line now seems to be a must after the failed Samsung Note 7.

Mate 9 Porsche Design Price and Availability

Let me remind you once again that we are talking about a premium model the Mate 9 which will cost you a total amount of €1,395 (or ~$1,549 or PKR. ~1,62,000/-) and it’s only available in Graphite Black color.

It’s going to be available in the European Porsche Design Stores starting in late December. Later in January, the smartphone will be available in Porsche Design Stores worldwide (excluding US) and select Huawei stores in Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
