CIA surveillance documents revealed recently by WikiLeaks might not be of any trouble for the agency as it’s not something new for them. But the technology giants, who keep pushing their stance in favour of their users’ and customers’ privacy, seem to act responsibly and quickly.
Google has released a statement saying that its products – namely Android and Chrome, have already been fixed for many of the exploits surfaced in the leaked documents. Earlier today, Apple also responded in the same manner as they had also fixed most of the subjected vulnerabilities in their platform and devices.
Document which revealed about how CIA was surveilling the iPhones, Android smartphones and other connected devices is yet the first release of a series of documents to be revealed further as claimed by WikiLeaks.
The report suggested that a dedicated unit at CIA targets Android platform that holds the majority of market share. The first release of the document shows that CIA had 24 “weaponized” Android “zero days” last year.
Heather Adkins, Google’s director of information security and privacy, provided this statement that follows.
“As we’ve reviewed the documents, we’re confident that security updates and protections in both Chrome and Android already shield users from many of these alleged vulnerabilities. Our analysis is ongoing and we will implement any further necessary protections. We’ve always made security a top priority and we continue to invest in our defenses.”
