Nokia 55″ 4K TV – Nokia’s Very First Smart TV, Only for India?

Struggling within the smartphone business, Nokia has launched its very first Smart TV in collaboration with Flipkart in India. Or more like Wallmart-owned Flipkart launching a Nokia branded TV in home town. Whatever it is, the TV might end up selling in India only.

The TV is built by Flipkart under the brand license of Nokia, reported Gadgets 360. Nokia has granted the e-commerce giant the license to use the “Nokia” brand for its smart TVs “in India”.

It hints that this certain TV may only sell in India. So before reading on, forget about buying it if do not reside in India.

“Flipkart, India’s leading e-commerce marketplace, announced today that it has entered into a strategic relationship with Nokia that grants it the use of the Nokia brand for Smart TVs in India – a global first for the brand in the TV category.”

Design and Profile

Code-named Nokia 55CAUHDN, the TV holds the profile of 55-inch diagonal with tightly thin bezels around. The bottom part has some thicker panel with “Nokia” branding in the center and the power button on the right corner. The bottom part further expands below with a JBL soundbar by HARMAN that contains a duo of 24-watt speakers.

Display

The 55″ display serves at Ultra HD or 4K native resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. The display offers maximum brightness of 400 nits, with a contrast ratio of 1200:1, and a refresh rate of 60Hz. The Direct LED type offers a viewing angle of 175-degrees.

Other Features

The TV is powered by a quad-core processor and coupled with 2.25GB RAM and 16GB onboard storage. For some graphics, it packs with the Mali 450 GPU. The TV runs Android 9 Pie operating system and comes with Google Play services. It also includes popular apps and services including Netflix, YouTube, Hotstar, and Prime.

It comes with three HDMI ports, two USB ports (1x USB 2.0, 1x USB 3.0), Bluetooth 5.0, AV-in, WiFi 2.4GHz a/b/g/n.

Price and Availability

This TV is labeled with the “Premium Android” series, so you can expect more TVs from the company in the future for lower or higher costs. This Nokia Smart TV will be available from December 10th, 2019 and will cost ~$590.

Comparison with other brands

Other Chinese TV manufacturers including TCL have similar prices for TVs with identical features. Most probably the Flipkart’s Smart TV with the brand name “Nokia” is going to give tough time to outsiders in India. Flipkart’s press release also revolves around “the nationalism” approach to sell Nokia’s global first Smart TV in India.
