Netflix Homes – Pay for account sharing in multiple households

Netflix Free Trial Pakistan

Netflix is set to roll out a new feature called “Netflix Homes” in five countries that will allow to add additional homes to share your account in. This feature comes with additional cost per home per month but allows you to share your account in as many households as you buy.

This is reportedly a new way that Netflix is testing to tackle account/password sharing for an additional cost. Beginning August 22, 2022, the feature will first be available in Argentina, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic.

With the new feature, a shared account will continue to work on TV or TV-connected device outside a primary home for up to two weeks, provided that account was never used in that location previously. After the two-week grace period, Netflix will prompt users to add a home for an additional fee. Sure, the platform will add a new home automatically and will not charge your credit card on account.

Additional fee and limitations to add home

Each Netflix account with either of the plans includes one primary home where you can watch Netflix on any of your devices, with respect to allowed screen limit.

To share your Netflix account in additional homes, you will need to pay an extra 219 Pesos per home per month in Argentina. In other regions, Dominican Republic, Honduras, El Salvador, and in Guatemala, the extra fee is $2.99 per home per month.

Users would be able to add limited number of extra homes depending on their subscription plan. On Basic plan, users can add only one extra home. With Standard plan, users can add up to two extra homes. With Premium, up to three extra homes can be added.

Replace homes, set a home as primary, remove a home

Members can see the locations where their account is being used. After verifying, they can use a new option “Watch Here” next to the TV icon they are using. This will trigger an even what Netflix calls “Replace Home” and a member can only replace included home 3 times every 6 months.

Users will have an option to set another home as primary if they have more than one home.

Well, users can also remove extra homes if they want. The extra fee for that home will be removed from future bills and all the devices connected in that home will be signed out at the end of the billing period.

Also note that users will still be sharing their own account/password like before. So in case you don’t want someone to use your account in an home/household and make additional changes, consider changing your password.

How Netflix detects homes?

Netflix uses information such as IP addresses, device IDs, and account activity to detect if the account is being used on a known location or somewhere else. If the user is using a device within their included home and still see a message that says that too many homes are using their account, they do the following.

  • Make sure that the device is connected to the same internet connection as the other devices in the home.
  • Make sure that the device is not connected to a VPN, proxy, or any unblocker service.
  • If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Netflix.

Add Extra Member

Do not confuse it with “add extra member” that Netflix launched back in March, 2022 allowing subscribers in Chile, Costa Rica, Peru, and Colombia to pay extra for users, not complete homes. The new “Add a Home” can be called an expansion to the existing “add extra member” option.
