Google confirms Pixel Watch battery drain, says fix is coming

Google says a Pixel Watch battery drain is hitting a small number of owners and that it is working on a fix, but it has not given a date.

Key points

  • Google says it has identified a Pixel Watch battery drain bug.
  • Some owners report battery life falling to about 12 hours.
  • No release date for the fix has been given.

Google has acknowledged that some Pixel Watch owners are seeing their battery empty far faster than normal, and says a fix is on the way. It has not said when the update will arrive.

Owners have reported watches that normally last a day or two dropping to around 12 hours, including while sitting idle on a desk. The complaints cover several generations, from the Pixel Watch 2 onwards, and it looks like a software problem rather than worn-out batteries.

Google’s response came on Reddit. According to an Android Authority report, the company wrote: “We have identified a battery drain issue, affecting a small number of Pixel Watch users, and are working to roll out a fix as soon as possible.”

Reports describe the drain as steady rather than tied to heavy use. Watches left alone on a desk, with no workout running, still lost charge quickly. That pattern is why owners suspect a background process rather than anything they are doing.

What owners have tried so far

Turning off the always-on display made little difference for people in the threads. A full reset of the watch helped some owners, but not everyone, so it is not a reliable workaround. If your watch is draining quickly, a reset is worth trying only if you are comfortable setting it up again.

A watch that needs charging twice a day is hard to wear overnight, so people who use it for sleep tracking will feel this most. Topping it up in the morning and evening is the only practical stopgap for now.

Several things are still open. Google’s reply does not name a cause, list the affected models or say which software version introduced the drain. The Android Authority writer expects a fix within a few days, but that is a hope rather than a commitment from Google. Owners whose watches are behaving normally do not need to do anything.

Google says the problem is limited to a small number of users and has given no timeline. Until the fix ships there is nothing to install, and we will cover the update once it arrives.
