Google has pushed a new round of Google Home changes, and the one most owners will notice is a fix for Gemini for Home speakers and displays that occasionally said “Sorry, I didn’t understand” when nobody had spoken. The update also brings smarter handling of moving music between rooms and a list of camera and firmware fixes.
The changes are in the 29 October entry of Google’s Home release notes. The voice fixes apply to Gemini for Home, which is still in early access, so they won’t reach every household yet.
Voice assistant: timers, volume and music
Several smaller bugs are gone as well. Google’s release notes list these fixes for the voice assistant:
- A rare mix-up between media sleep timers, regular timers and alarms.
- Adjusting another room’s volume sometimes changed the speaker you were talking to.
- Timers and alarms could be set to zero volume. They now follow the device volume.
- Voice commands on smart displays now reliably start requested YouTube TV content.
Requests such as “move Mozart to the living room” are also handled better.
Matter doors, energy use and cameras
In the Google Home app, Android gets correct icons and controls for Matter garage doors, gates, windows, blinds and cabinets. Supported Matter plugs and energy monitors now show live power draw and total energy use, with a one-tap shortcut that sets energy-saving temperatures.
Camera fixes are split by platform. On iPhone, the “Video Not Available” error when scrolling the event timeline is fixed. On Android, live view no longer sticks when a foldable phone is opened or closed. The wired first-generation Nest Doorbell gets better person and Familiar Face detection, and several first-generation cameras and Nest Cam IQ models, now supported in the Google Home app, get better Wi-Fi reconnection, faster night-vision switching and audio and video sync fixes.
The profile menu in the app now holds the Google Home Premium features and benefits.

Google notes that features can take time to reach everyone. The page does not list country availability for these changes.
