vivo may be preparing a wide-screen phone that does not fold, for release in 2027. Digital Chat Station, a Chinese tipster, says one brand is highly likely to bring out a wide candybar phone next year, with early plans leaning towards a compact panel, most likely under 6.5 inches.
The tipster’s Weibo post, shared on 6 November, did not name the company. The brand is a reading of Digital Chat Station’s earlier tips, which Chinese tech media took to point to vivo. vivo has said nothing about such a phone, and the tip carries no chipset, camera, battery or price details.
A wide candybar is an ordinary slab with a broader screen than today’s tall phones, in place of a foldable. Huawei started the trend in September with the Pura X View, which has a 6.39-inch OLED panel with a 16:9.5 ratio and a resolution of 2232 x 1320, according to a Chinese report. If the tip holds, vivo’s phone would be close to that size.
The same tipster earlier said Oppo is likely to ship the first wide phone in the Android camp, with Honor second and the rest slower. The tipster added that all of China’s top five brands have wide-screen projects in testing, covering camera-focused, mid-range and performance models. Xiaomi’s reported test phone is part of the same wave.
Fans online have started calling it the X Note 2, after the 7-inch X Note vivo sold in 2022, but nobody has suggested that name is real. The 2022 original used a 7-inch LTPO AMOLED screen and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip and never got a direct successor, so a pocketable wide phone would be a very different product. A project this early can slip or be cancelled, so the year is a target and the brand is a guess until vivo shows something.
