vivo X500 Ultra reportedly still on for March or April, tipster says

Digital Chat Station says vivo's X500 Ultra has not been shelved, with a spring China launch and a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip.

Key points

  • Digital Chat Station says the vivo X500 Ultra is still on for March or April 2027.
  • The tipster names the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip.
  • vivo has not confirmed any of the specs.

Digital Chat Station says vivo’s X500 Ultra is still on track for a launch in March or April 2027. The claim comes in a Weibo post and a reply under it, which also name the chip as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. None of this has been confirmed by vivo.

The post matters because other Ultra phones have recently looked shaky. The same tipster recently hinted that Oppo’s flagship is paused, though it was only a hint, not a confirmed cancellation, and reports said Xiaomi had dropped its 18 Ultra. The tipster also suggests vivo could end up with the one Ultra-class flagship this cycle.

The timing matches what a vivo vice president of product said in September, that the phone would come to China in March or April, and that its camera performance would pull further ahead of the X500 Pro Max. That is a statement of intent made two months ago, and plans can shift before a spring launch.

There is no X400 in vivo’s line-up. The company moved straight from the X300 series to the X500 series, which arrived in China in September as three phones: the base X500 and its Pro and Pro Max versions. The Ultra would sit above them. Reports say the number four was skipped because it sounds like the word for death in Chinese, though vivo has not given a reason itself.

vivo itself has said little beyond the chip. Other rumours list a 50MP main camera and a 200MP periscope telephoto, a 6.85-inch 2K LTPO AMOLED panel at 144Hz with an ultrasonic fingerprint reader under the glass, and a battery of 7,000mAh to 8,000mAh. Those details come from unnamed sources rather than the tipster’s post, so take them loosely.

Markets beyond China are an open question. The X300 Ultra did reach buyers elsewhere, but nothing from vivo says the X500 Ultra will follow it abroad.
