According to the reports, Nokia Maps are going to be used by Amazon for the next Kindle Fire. While currently Kindle Fire does not support mapping or location services, however stepping on to Apple’s path Amazon also decides to avoid Google Maps. That is told by tells some people to Reuters.
A popular navigation services provider, TomTom, has announced that they are previewing a navigation application for Android platform at IFA 2012. The Android application will incorporate with TomTom navigation, map and HD traffic details, IQ Routing with the fastest routes and the most accurate arrival times. The application is set for release in October 2012.
Flickr (A Yahoo! company) has officially announced that they have partnered with Nokia to bring up-to-date map data tiles from Nokia’s NAVTEQ maps to help their users geotagging their photos, discovering places, or simply want to see where other people’s amazing images were taken. Flickr will be providing now more detailed maps from the most reputed mapping experience from Nokia.
“Pakistan is an excellent example of a country who’s almost fully mapped for mapmaker and this is one of the best examples I’ve ever seen. Over four year this one went from a naked map to something that’s more detailed than almost any American city that I know of.” Says Brian McClendon – VP of Engineering, Google Maps.
Google Inc. and Punjab Govt. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bring one of the most appreciated services till now which have been on the Google Maps. The MoU will allow Google to come up on the streets of Punjab with special cameras mounted on their cars to collect pictures for tourism promotion of heritage and cultural sites.
