All Nokia phones to receive Android Oreo by the end of 2017, confirms HMD

Android Oreo Nokia 6, Nokia 5, Nokia 3

The initial trio of HMD, Nokia 6, 5 and Nokia 3 are bound to receive the major software release of Android Oreo by the end of this year. HMD Global General Manager for Australia, New Zealand, and Indonesia has confirmed in an interview.

This is not the first time we hear about it, as HMD has already confirmed to roll out the Android 8/O software update Nokia 6, 5 and Nokia 3. With the latest confirmation from Europe, it’s apparently coming to the devices by the end of 2017.

The trio of the initial Nokia branded Android smartphones come with Android 7 Nougat out-of-the-box. Since all of these devices run pure Android software with only a bit of touches in UI, they have been receiving monthly updates and security patches.

Mid-range devices like these three usually do not see such a frequent software updates. The pure Android software is the key element which is actually making this happen. However HMD’s dedication to its customers is also appreciable to keep things smooth for these devices. We have recently seen a first software update on Nokia 3 from 7.0 to 7.1.1 which has put the lowest cost phone among the three right at the level of Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 which had Android 7.1.1 out of the box.

While these three mid-rangers have been shipped globally, the latest release of Nokia 8 being the high-end smartphone will supposedly receive the Android O sooner after it’s perfect. Chief Production Officer at HMD, Juho Sarvikas confirmed about the software with the hands-on pictures a couple of weeks ago.
