The Camera Expert leaves Microsoft and returns to Nokia to work on VR

The former Head of Imaging at Nokia, Juha Alakarhu, who later joined Microsoft along with the whole Nokia teams after when the software giant acquired Nokia’s phone business, has now left Microsoft to rejoin most popular Finnish brand.

Alakarhu has been the key figure in developing the PureView camera technology which pioneered the smartphone camera systems with the launch of Nokia 808 PureView carrying 41 megapixel camera – still the largest image sensor on a smartphone. Later working with Microsoft, he managed to run the technology with the similar larger image sensor on a Windows Phone, Lumia 1020.

This time the camera expert has joined the Finnish technology giant to work on their OZO Virtual Reality program. “A small announcement: today was my first day in Nokia Technologies! I am now new Head of Imaging in the Ozo team.” – He himself announced about the news at twitter.

When Microsoft acquired Nokia’s mobile business, along with many others, Alakarhu with his team also joined Microsoft. But now it seems really like Microsoft is not taking much interest in their acquired phone business and rather focusing on their Windows platform and support other mobile platforms instead. On the other hand, Nokia may be planning a comeback to phone business again.
