Nokia 8 Pakistan Hands-On

Having it announced globally back in August, HMD Global has finally launched the flagship Nokia 8 in Pakistan after five long months. This is the sixth smartphone under the umbrella inline with Nokia 2, Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6 and Nokia 7. The former most is yet to be seen in Pakistan however.

As we told you last week, Nokia 8 costs PKR 59,900 in Pakistan for high-end hardware components. It’s is a full metal shell in an aluminium unibody design. It’s 7.9mm thick at maximum (the mid) and 4.6mm at minimum (the edges).

Visual Appeal

Nokia 8 sports a 5.3-inch screen with IPS display with Quad-HD resolution. This moderate screen size with high resolution gives the higher pixel density as 554ppi for those who always want an amazing sharpness on their smartphone display. The display brightness is company-rated to gain 700 nits at maximum, which sure is a lot.

During the global launch, if you remember, HMD has explained they they opted for higher resolution front-facing camera and front-mounted fingerprint scanner instead of dual-edge display.

Nokia 8 Blue and Copper

Power Features

Inside, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 is powering up the first flagship Nokia running Android OS. Along with 4GB of RAM the Nokia 8 features 64GB of internal storage in four color models. Polished Blue, Polished Copper, Tempered Blue and Steel. We are not sure if and when the 6GB RAM model with 128GB of internal storage will be available in Pakistan. Expandable memory is also supported with microSD card for up to 256GB.

Photography

Nokia 8 has a dual-camera setup with two 13-megapixel. They are combined together with an RGB sensor and a monochrome sensor. An image is shot with both the sensors and then combined for better low-light photography. On top, it’s co-engineered with Carl ZEISS and the lenses are indeed ZEISS branded.

Monochrome sensor alone is also available to shoot real black & white images rather than the traditional photos converted later by desaturation. It has an f/2.0 lens aperture with 1.12µm pixel size.

Nokia 8 Bothie

The front-facing camera also has a 13MP sensor inside and also features ZEISS optics. Interestingly, the front camera is also phase detect autofocus. It also features an f/2.0 lens with 1.12µm pixel size.

The flagship offers the features like live streaming of Dual-Sight video from native camera app to Facebook and YouTube. If you are not familiar, Dual-Sight simultaneously uses both the front and rear cameras in a split-screen for both photo mode and video mode. HMD calls it “Bothie”.

Fans can also enjoy unlimited photo and video uploads to Google Photos.

Audio

HMD Global chose OZO Audio to feature in Nokia 8 – first time in an smartphone. According to the claims, it’s exclusive Hollywood technology that you can experience right in your hands. “OZO spatial 360° audio brings a fully immersive audio experience to your 4K video. Leading-edge 360° audio capture ensures the playback lets you truly relive the moment so your memories never fade.”

Nokia 8 runs Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box and features a 3090 mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 (18W, 5V/2.5A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.5A)

What’s Missing?

It’s not waterproof but splashproof with IP54 rating. That means it will be fine to take it out during a slight rain shower but not recommended to take it to swim.

Nokia 8 will cost you PKR 59,900/- in Pakistan (~$550) and is available from today nationwide. You can will four colors to choose from, Polished Blue, Polished Copper, Tempered Blue and Steel.
