Applying for a free Chromebook under the Prime Minister’s Youth scheme goes smoothly only if your documents are ready before you open the form. The whole process runs on one website run by the Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC), and every file you upload has a strict size limit.
This guide walks through the form in order, from checking whether you qualify to downloading your slip. Students in Sindh cannot start yet, and there is one rule that catches people out: the form cannot be changed once it is submitted.
The scheme itself is covered in our news report on the applications opening. Here is the practical side.
Check that you qualify first
The official portal says only students enrolled in government or public schools are eligible, and only the top performers of the 2026 annual exams. In Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan that means Grade 9 (SSC-I). In Islamabad, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, top students from Grade 9 and Grade 10 (SSC-II) are both considered.
Sindh is the exception. The portal says registration for Sindh will open on the same site after all the province’s boards declare their 2026 Class 9 results, so check back later rather than guessing a date.
Get four files ready
Scan or photograph the following before you begin, and keep each one under 300 KB:
- A recent colour photograph with a plain background (JPG or PNG)
- Your SSC-I or SSC-II mark sheet (JPG, PNG or PDF)
- Your B-Form or CNIC, photocopied and attested (JPG, PNG or PDF)
- The same for your father or guardian: a photocopy of their CNIC with attestation (JPG, PNG or PDF)
The portal asks for documents to be clearly readable, so after shrinking a file, zoom in and make sure the numbers and stamps can still be read.
The application, step by step
- Open pmychromebooks.ibcc.edu.pk and pick your board from the list under “Start your application”.
- Type in whichever identifier is on your board record: CNIC, B-Form, roll or registration number. Type numbers only, without dashes.
- Choose your date of birth and press “Find my record”.
- Check the name, school and marks the portal shows. They come from the list your board sent to IBCC, not from you.
- Upload the four documents.
- Review every field on the final screen and submit.
- Download the reference number and slip you receive, and keep it safe.
If your record does not show up
If the CNIC or B-Form search fails, the portal suggests searching with your roll or registration number. If the record still does not appear, it tells students to contact their board, since IBCC works from the data boards provide. We could not find a helpline number on the portal, so use your own board’s office.
Rules that cannot be undone
Each student can apply once, and you cannot change the form after submitting it. The portal also warns that giving false details cancels your allocation and can bring further action. A Dawn report on the 25 October launch in Islamabad says the plan covers 500,000 Chromebooks over two years.
No nationwide closing date is published on the portal, and applying does not guarantee a device, because selection depends on each board’s merit list. If a deadline or a Sindh opening date appears, we will update this guide.
