If we say, HMD Global is one of the first Android smartphone makers to ship faster software updates in addition to regular monthly security patches, then it won’t be wrong. In fact, the Finnish company is little more aggressive in shipping the updates to most of its devices.

Until now it was only Nokia 8 which was running Android’s latest software build of Oreo 8.1, when the software update is started rolling out to Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 devices globally in select markets. People in Pakistan has also starting receiving the update. The screen grabs were taken from Nokia 6 TA-1021 device in Pakistan.

Taking a recent overview, the company launched its first three devices running Android operating system – Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and the Nokia 6 last year. Later the same year, the company launched its first flagship Nokia 8 and the low-end Nokia 2. The company started another year by launching four new devices at MWC 2018. These were Nokia 6 (2018), the Nokia 7 Plus, the flagship Nokia 8 Sirocco, and entry-level Nokia 1 which is company’s first Android Go smartphone.

The new devices will indeed run latest software builds but the company was already shipping the updates to previous devices. Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 just had their Oreo 8.0 software update earlier last month and now they have just started receiving the Android Oreo 8.1.

However, the Nokia Android smartphones are still not catching up with its camera and photography expertise. Specially the user interface of camera has very fewer features. The famous Nokia Camera UI is indeed expected to feature in Android devices as the company has reportedly received the Nokia design patents transferred from Microsoft that also included Camera UI. So you can expect it to come featured in later software updates sooner or later.

Or you can always check for updates manually by going through Settings > System > System update > Check for update. Do let us know about your feedback with the software update and experience.
